Baby Steps to Potty-Training February 5, 2008
Over the past week or so I have been noticing some things that shows Stephens awareness of being wet or “stinky”. Two days in a row when I start to smell something foul I will ask Stephen are you stinky? He says stinky and grabs his butt. Then last night before I even smelled anything, he came up to me and was trying to pull down his pants and grabbing his diaper while yelling at me. I asked if he was stinky, he shook his head yes. Finally, it used to be a battle to change diapers. As soon as he saw you with a diaper he would bolt in the opposite direction; now he will grab it from me and lay down. He also likes to take a wipe and take care of his pee pee. I know we are still a long way off from full blown potty-training, but it is nice to see some steps in the right direction. Maybe I should get a potty chair so he gets used to it.
18 Month Check-up February 3, 2008
Friday was Stephen’s “well child” check-up, even though I wouldn’t have concidered him very “well”. His new stats are: Height 32.5 inches (58%), Weight 23 pounds 10 ounces (20%), and Head 48.4cm (69%). He is doing great, my only concern was his lack of vocabulary. The doctor reassured me that most boys will all of a sudden start saying much more right around the 2 year mark. So I guess we will wait and see what happens with that. I am sure I will be begging him to be quite once he does start really talking.
I finally got my hair cut. The last time was almost a year to the day. Can you believe that? One whole year with no haircut. I also got some long needed girl time with some friends. Robin and I are standing up in a wedding in July; the bridesmaids had their fittings today at David’s Bridal. That was nerve-racking for me, 5 months pregnant trying to figure out what size I will be 4 weeks after giving birth. Oh and don’t forget the ever changing boob size that comes with breastfeeding. I was very excited to get out of the house 2 days in a row with no children or husband nagging me about something. I turned a dress fitting into a 4 hour vacation away from all the coughing, boogers driping from noses and a lazy husband that lays on the couch all weekend while I cook, clean, do laundry, diapers, baths, naps BLAH BLAH BLAH. Anyways, I am glad I finally got a couple days of “Me Time”. I am definately going to call it an early night; medicate the children and hopefully I will be in bed by 9:30pm. Sweet dreams to all!
It’s Been Awhile… December 1, 2007
It’s been a couple of weeks since my last post. So here is what has been happing:
1. We finally made it to the cabin for opening weekend. Day one was fine. At about 1am Friday morning Stephen started the vomiting. You can’t give a 15 1/2 month old a bucket and tell them to aim for that. So Grandma went to the laundromat for me when about 3 towels, 3 blankies (including the favorite one), 2 pairs of jammies and the sheets had all been thrown up on. So the rest of the weekend I was on edge wondering if/when the next round of vomit would begin. But after a 4-5 hour nap, little Stephen seemed much better.
2. Mommy gets the flu too: Monday night at 8:30 I began my puking rally. I can not remember the last time that I threw up from being actually sick. I felt like puke was going to shoot out of my ears and eyeballs, not just my mouth and nose. It was rediculous the amount that came out of me!! From 8:30 to 6am I continually ran to the bathroom about every half hour. Finally at 5 I told Robin that he had to stay home from work and manage the children. I don’t think that I could have even lifted Stephen out of his crib if I tried.
3. Dr appointment: Baby is smaller than it should have been at that time. So they moved the due date back to June 16th. Follow up ultrasound is scheduled for Dec 11. Other than that, no other news.
4. Thanksgiving Weekend: Lets just say that we didn’t have our Turkey Day until Saturday. Thank you very much Air Products!!
5. Let the Christmas shopping and decorating extravaganza begin!! I had a very successfull shopping day on Monday. I got 3 people done plus St. Nick stuff! The tree also went up on Monday. I am having regrets about that. Stephen had only broken one glass ornament at this point, but there have been lots of “NO!”, “Don’t Touch!”, and “HOT!” I think he is finally understanding that the tree is for looking at not touching.
6. New words: Stephen has added BABY, WEEEE, and DOE DOE to his vocabulary. I think sometimes I hear All Done too, but I could be imaging that. I am working on Ho Ho Ho, (maybe that is where the doe doe came from), Santa, and tree. Hopefully by Christmas it will have come out of Stephen’s mouth and not just mine.
We are a bottle free home!!! November 10, 2007
It has been one week now since we cut off the baba. I thought the first couple of days went pretty well until I figured out that while I was at work Daddy was allowing sippy cups in bed!!! I swear I felt steam come out of my ears. I calmly explained that sippy cups were not allowed in bed at any time EVER!! Daddy’s response: “Well what is he supposed to drink in bed to fall asleep?” NOTHING!!! That is the point of all this, he doesn’t need anything to drink while he is sleeping!!! So it took Mommy all week dealing with a whiny toddler at nap time and sometimes screaming at bedtime to break him. An added bonus, I am going through less diapers now that he isn’t guzzling bottles down 3 times a day. I was kind of worried that he wasn’t getting enough to drink through-out the day, but I think we are ok. With that said, I am on a mission to find a different doctor to fix his tongue.
Bottle Update November 4, 2007
It is now day 3 of no bottles and I have to admit that it is going quite well. I expected much more screaming and tears. (I have been at work through most of it, maybe that is why I think it is going well.) However, when I got home from work yesterday at 3pm, Stephen still hadn’t taken a nap. He finally did after about a half hour of not so horrible crying, but then at 6:30 I decided that he needed to get up and eat dinner cuz if we left him to sleep he would be up at 3am ready to go. Then back to bed at 10pm. I keep asking myself why we didn’t do this sooner. I thought it would be a horrible and traumatic event for little Stephen. Daddy kept telling me that he isn’t ready to give up his bottle. Well, it’s done and I am glad. Now on to the next step… Potty Training!! In my dreams.
Oh to be tongue-tied… November 3, 2007
Stephen had his 15 month check-up today and he is still perfect. His new stats are: Head size- 48.5 cm (80%), Height-31.5 inches (64%), and Weight- 22# 3oz (18%). We got yelled at for the whole bottle situation. I asked for some ideas to help us break the habit of needing it to sleep. She basically said cut him off cold turkey and buy some earplugs. Is it just me or is that kind of mean? Well, mean or not mean we tried it out at nap time. The end result: screaming for an hour in his room and no nap. I am at work so hopefully Robin will stay strong at bedtime tonight.
My main concern for this visit, Stephen’s tongue. They said it is mildly tongue-tied and they don’t suggest doing anything about it unless it causes problems with speech down the road. They also said that his tongue will just learn to work in a different way so they don’t forsee any speech problems. HMMM….So my son will never be able to stick out his tongue? Her response “You are entitled to a second opinion.” I am not so sure that I just want to wait around and see if he can’t say certain sounds. We think that we would rather be proactive and fix it just in case. So now I need to find a ENT doctor that will laser that sucker. Poor kid, I am sure he is thinking “I hate you mommy for giving me this screwed up tongue! If I could, I would stick it out at you right now!”
Lets not forget the shots. I thought he was done with the shots for awhile. Boy was I wrong. They stabbed him 4 times, one of which was a flu shot so its our fault he got that one. I bet he really wanted his baba after that. At least the period of time that he screams is getting shorter each time we go.
Oh and a fun side note: As I walked out of the bathroom last night Robin says to me “Why are you sticking out your stomach, your not even that pregnant yet?” I wasn’t sticking out my stomach, I thought it was all in my head that I was starting to show a little bit. Yikes!!! To add to it, Lyhna asked me when my stomach is going to get really big so she can tell if I am having twins. WTF!!! I will lose my frickin’ mind!!
Updates! October 20, 2007
It’s been awhile, so here is what has been going on in the Donchess household lately:
1. Stephen is teething like crazy. So that means a trip to the doctor because of a fever for 3 days, no appetite, and just all around mopey. He actually fell asleep on the couch with no blankie or bottle, that’s when I knew it was bad…
2. Robin got a promotion at work. He is the “lead welder.” So basically his manager tells him what needs to get done that day/week and Robin gets to tell everyone else what to and when, and then do a crap load of paperwork about it. Congratulations honey!!
3. We carved pumkins. Stephen’s first pumkin carving experiance was not a fun as I imagined. All he wanted to do was crawl on the table to get the knives and eat all the pumpkin guts. Pictures will be posted eventually when I can get our internet working properly again.
4. We have been going to the YMCA almost everyday. I am actually able to run one whole mile now without stopping. I am so proud of myself.
5. Lice outbreak at the YMCA Kids Korner (where Stephen goes while we get our sweat on). Stephen is lice-free thank goodness!
6. I saved the best for last people: I am pregnant!!! I had great ideas of how we were going to tell everyone, but that didn’t happen when Lyhna let it slip to my mom and dad. Then my sister found out, so I am just going to tell the whole world at once. It looks like our new bundle of joy will be arriving in early June, no official due date yet. I have my first appointment on November 6th, so I will let everyone know then. So far I feel fine, just a bit more tired than usual (but I figure I will be tired for the next 5 years at least).
Thats all folks… I will let the shock sink in!!
MAAA MAAA!! October 1, 2007
Well, he finally said his first real “Ma Ma” this morning. It wasn’t like all the cute Da Da’s I hear all day long. It was more like he was yelling at me to hurry up with his breakfast. But it was still a definate Ma Ma so I am happy with that!!
Up again last night! September 27, 2007
This time he lasted until 4am. There was a moment were I thought that he was going to be up the for the day. Why is it that when Stephen gets a new tooth it is never just one? He gets four at a time!! Is that normal?! The poor kid. I noticed the onces trying to come through on the bottom, but 2 on top busted through already. So he kind of has unusual fangs. I just hope he doesn’t inherit my bad teeth! Anyone want to place bets on what time he will start screaming tonight?
